When you feel safe, you can truly be free

The three-point safety belt was just the beginning of Volvo Cars' vision to make you feel safe. For Life

Kuala Lumpur, 5th February 2024 – Feel true freedom when you are secure – a sentiment at the core of Volvo Cars' commitment to safety. In 1959, Volvo Cars, in collaboration with Nils Bohlin, revolutionized vehicle safety by introducing the three-point safety belt. Not only did they pioneer this critical design, but they also generously waived patent rights, allowing widespread adoption across the automotive industry. Since its inception, the three-point seatbelt has saved an estimated one million lives and prevented injuries for countless others.

As a trailblazer in automotive safety, Volvo Cars continues to lead the way, introducing a myriad of safety innovations beyond the iconic seatbelt. The brand's unwavering dedication to safety is exemplified by their vision that no one should suffer serious harm in a new Volvo car. Today, Volvo Cars aspires to achieve zero collisions, identifying three key areas – speeding, intoxication, and distraction – as "gaps to zero." In response, the company has capped the maximum speed of its cars, addressed issues related to intoxication, and is actively developing a Driver Understanding System utilizing a two-camera setup to detect driver distraction, sleepiness, or intoxication.

This commitment to safety resonates with Volvo car owners, each with a unique story. Alvin Geoffrey Alphonso, CEO of Port Klang Cruise Terminal, shares his journey from being captivated by a relative's Volvo P1800 to realizing his dream of owning a Volvo. Alvin emphasizes the importance of Volvo's active safety features, citing instances where they proved crucial, especially the lane departure warning.
