Kuala Lumpur, 18th April 2024 – Michelin Malaysia, a global leader in tire manufacturing, is proud to announce its strengthened commitment to sustainable growth and innovation, aligning with the Group's core values and extending its dedication to customers and partners.

Underlining its dedication to advancing sustainable practices, Michelin Malaysia unveils its updated business strategy for the Malaysian market today. This strategic direction focuses on fostering innovation for enhanced mobility experiences while championing sustainability across all facets of its operations. This initiative reflects Michelin's unwavering commitment to driving innovation not only on the road but also beyond, within the Malaysian landscape.

Mr. Prichapakorn Dangrojana, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, expressed, "The accomplishments of 2023 stand as a testament to Michelin's ability to meet and exceed the expectations of our esteemed customers and partners. Recognizing that mobility encompasses more than just vehicular transportation in Malaysia, we are dedicated to continually pushing boundaries, delivering value that transcends mere transportation, and enriching lives in motion and beyond. As Michelin deepens its investment in the Malaysian market, we are poised to offer more than just tires; we are delivering innovation, sustainability, and performance tailored to meet the diverse needs of our Malaysian clientele."

Meeting the Demands of Evolving Mobility

The year 2023 marked a milestone achievement for the Group, with operating income reaching an unprecedented €3.57 billion (US$3.85 billion). This remarkable feat was bolstered by a robust mix, enhanced operational performance, and the enduring price effect from 2022. Notably, in Malaysia, the premium mix impact has been particularly significant, with the 18” and above rim segment in Passenger Cars witnessing a doubling in size over the past five years, mirroring the surge in SUV adoption across the country.

To expand its reach and accessibility, Michelin has expanded its network of TYREPLUS outlets, MICHELIN Expert Centers, and distribution centers to encompass 211 locations nationwide, ensuring widespread availability of its premium-quality products to consumers across Malaysia.

Moreover, Michelin has diversified its product offerings by introducing VELO (bicycle) tires to the Malaysian market in 2023, aiming to revolutionize the cycling experience nationwide with tires designed for enduring safety, durability, and performance.

Embracing the Electric Future

In response to the escalating demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia, Michelin stands prepared for the EV surge, affirming that its tires are inherently EV-ready, equipped with advanced tire technology to deliver optimal performance and value for money.

Given the unique challenges posed by EVs, such as instantaneous torque and battery weight, Michelin tires are engineered to offer exceptional lifespan advantages over competitors, meeting the rigorous performance requirements of electric vehicles, including rolling resistance, long-term performance, load capacity, and noise reduction.

Michelin's tire solutions provide electric vehicle owners with an ideal balance of performance and value, ensuring a smooth and efficient driving experience.

Innovation for Sustainable Progress

At the heart of Michelin's global sustainability approach lies a commitment to 'People, Profit, and Planet' as guiding principles to be realized by 2030. In 2024, Michelin remains steadfast in ensuring that each innovation embodies a people-centric, value-driven, and sustainable ethos."

Innovation serves as our cornerstone across all markets, spanning tires, connected mobility solutions, and advanced materials. Michelin Malaysia is dedicated to driving operational and environmental differentiation in line with our shared global objectives. Globally, the company is focused on tire excellence and pioneering solutions for diverse industries such as construction, aeronautics, low-carbon energy, and healthcare," emphasized Mr. Dangrojana.

Aligned with this commitment, Michelin prioritizes the well-being of its employees and communities, investing in upskilling initiatives to empower its workforce while maintaining a steadfast focus on profitability.
