AUTOMOTIVE

An Engaging McLaren Experience

The Artura Spider is designed to meet high standards across various performance aspects, including driver engagement, agility, and refinement. The retractable hard-top, which opens or closes in just 11 seconds, enhances the open-air driving experience, amplifying the car’s supercar excitement.

With the roof down, the Artura Spider offers a direct connection to the environment, intensifying the sensory experience as drivers enjoy the sun and coastal scents. The luxurious steering wheel and sculpted gearshift paddles build anticipation, while the redesigned exhaust system adds to the driving excitement with a powerful and emotive sound.

The Artura Spider employs McLaren’s Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), which maintains rigidity even without a fixed roof. This architecture includes a carbon fibre monocoque, aluminium impact structures, and an innovative ethernet electrical system that reduces cabling by 25%, enhancing efficiency.

“When we introduced the Artura Coupe in 2022, we set new standards for performance through innovation. Today’s unveiling of the Artura Spider brings that same electrifying performance to an open-top experience, perfect for enthusiasts seeking enhanced thrills from our pioneering technology,” said Ravinder Singh, Chief Operating Officer of McLaren Kuala Lumpur.

Charlotte Dickson, Regional Director – Asia Pacific at McLaren Automotive, added, “The Artura Spider exemplifies McLaren’s commitment to groundbreaking engineering, offering the most engaging high-performance hybrid experience available. Whether cruising through Surrey's rolling hills, navigating Langkawi’s serene curves, or exploring the French Riviera’s scenic roads, the open-air connection heightens the driving experience. Conversely, its electric mode offers a silent and sophisticated urban drive. On the track, the Artura Spider delivers uncompromised supercar performance.”

Lightweight Engineering and Performance

McLaren’s emphasis on lightweight engineering is crucial for the Artura Spider’s exceptional performance and agility. At a dry weight of 1,457kg and a kerb weight of 1,560kg—just 62kg more than the coupe—the Spider is notably lighter than its convertible competitors. Combined with its 700PS hybrid powertrain, this results in an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 480PS/tonne, optimizing the car’s supercar performance.

Enhanced Powertrain and Sound

The hybrid powertrain of the Artura Spider has been recalibrated to deliver an additional 20PS from the V6 engine, increasing total power to 700PS. This power enhancement, focused from 4,000rpm to 8,500rpm, provides a dramatic performance increase. The engine, a 3.0-litre M630 dry-sump aluminium petrol unit, is lightweight and compact, contributing to a high-revving nature and improved throttle response.

The Spider features an upgraded exhaust system for a refined engine note and an optional sports exhaust for a more engaging sound experience. Its axial flux E-motor, located within the transmission bell housing, produces 95PS and 225Nm, complementing the V6 engine with rapid acceleration and sharp throttle response. The Artura Spider’s E-motor and 7.4kWh battery pack add just 130kg to the vehicle’s weight, crucial for maintaining its competitive weight figures. The car achieves 0-100km/h in 3.0 seconds, 0-200km/h in 8.4 seconds, and 0-300km/h in 21.6 seconds, with a top speed of 330km/h.

Dynamic Handling and Precision

The Artura Spider benefits from new powertrain mounts and updated rear suspension, enhancing stability and handling. The ride and handling are optimized with revised damper valving and improved Domain Control Units (DCU) for quicker responses. The car features three dynamic handling modes - Comfort, Sport, and Track - allowing drivers to adjust performance based on driving conditions.

Pirelli’s CyberTMTyre technology and Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) are integrated to enhance performance and comfort, while the standard P ZERO™ tyres and optional P ZERO™ CORSA tyres provide exceptional grip and control.

Innovative Features and Design

The Artura Spider’s design includes a striking visual identity, with sculpted bodywork and a Retractable Hard Top (RHT) that seamlessly integrates with the vehicle’s aesthetics. The RHT, available with an Electrochromic glass panel, can be adjusted for light control and heat reduction.

The Spider’s aerothermal cooling system and revised buttresses enhance powertrain cooling and reduce air buffeting. The cabin retains the driver-focused design of the coupe, with advanced features such as a clean steering wheel, customizable McLaren Clubsport seats, and a high-definition infotainment system (MIS II).

Personalization and Options

The Artura Spider offers a range of personalization options, including various exterior paints, interior specifications, and wheel designs. A five-year unlimited mileage warranty, six-year battery warranty, and a three-year service plan are included. For more details on the new McLaren Artura Spider, including specifications and customization options, visit the McLaren website.
