‍‍‍CleanZone technology means that the air you breathe inside the car is clean and fresh, regardless of the air quality outside the vehicle. It filters dust, pollen, particulates, and odours while monitoring the air quality and closing the intakes if pollutant levels rise too high. It happens automatically - all you need to do is set the temperature you want, and the XC60 does the rest.

What is Sensus? Sensus is our approach to technology, one that has a guiding principle - to make your life easier and more enjoyable, whether it’s your comfort, entertainment, or navigation requirements. Sensus connects you with your Volvo. It keeps you informed, entertained, and in control of your journey.Intuitive, easy-to-use controls are a prime feature of Sensus and you will find them on the large, 9-inch centre display with touch screen. Replacing physical buttons with virtual equivalents on the screen allows them to be larger and easier to use, while also making the cabin feel less cluttered.

Always looking out for‍‍‍ you

IntelliSafe is our name for the intuitive, intelligent Volvo Cars technologies that support your driving, help to prevent accidents, and protect you in a collision. These innovations play a key role in helping us realise our bold vision that, by 2020, no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car.

City Safety is at the heart of IntelliSafe. Fitted as standard, it’s like a co-pilot that’s looking out for you, detecting danger ahead, then warning you and intervening if necessary.

Reducing the impact of a collision is just as important as avoiding the collision. We invented the safety belt over 5‍‍‍0 years ago and we never stopped innovating. With technology that’s as advanced as this, your Volvo can help make every day safer. For you, your passengers, and everybody.

‍‍‍(1) City Safety identifies other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals ahead of you, even at night. It warns you of any hazards and, if you don’t react, it will brake automatically to help avoid or mitigate a collision and can help you steer around obstacles on the road and avoid oncoming vehicles.

(2) Steering Support predicts if you are about to hit something. If you start to steer, but not enough, it will try to increase the steering, making rapid manoeuvres safer and more effective.

(3) Oncoming Lane Mitigation‍‍‍ can help avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles by automatically steering the car out of the way.

‍‍‍(4) Run-off Road Mitigation steers and, if necessary, brakes to help prevent you leaving the road accidentally.

‍‍‍(5) Driver Alert Control recognises if you’re tired or distracted and suggests that it’s time to take a break.

(6) Road Sign Information reminds you of the speed limit.

‍‍‍(7) Cross Traffic Alert technology helps you to reverse out of a space knowing that there are no vehicles about to collide with you. The technology can spot vehicles approaching from either side of your Volvo at a distance of up to 30 metres, while cyclists and pedestrians can be detected at even shorter distances.

‍‍‍(8) Blind Spot Information with Steer Assist for increased awareness and confidence on the highway, alerting you of vehicles alongside you. If you don’t react to the warnings and drift into the path of another vehicle, Steer Assist will gently guide you back into your lane.

(9) Rear Collision Warning detects if another vehicle is about to hit you from behind and flashes the hazard lights more quickly than usual. It also tenses up the safety belts.

Drive-E‍‍‍

Enjoying more, using less

With the perfect balance between performance and efficiency, every powertrain in a Volvo gives you on-demand power with low fuel consumption. We achieve this with Drive-E, the cutting-edge technology behind every one of our advanced petrol and diesel engines, where performance and efficiency are built in.

Smaller engines lose less energy through friction so they can make every drop of fuel work harder to minimise emissions. We’ve used low-friction components to make them run smoother and more efficiently. Reducing size and weight has freed up interior space and improved the car’s handling.

Our eight-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox make the most of each engine’s potential. Designed to minimise power loss and maximise performance, Geartronic will always select the right gear for whatever is coming next, or you can choose to change gear yourself in manual mode.

T5‍‍‍ - The 254hp/350Nm T5 petrol powertrain is as responsive on the highway as in the city. This superb all-rounder delivers generous power just where you need it, ensuring excellent drivability in combination with our smooth 8-speed automatic gearbox.

T8 Twin Engine AWD - Our T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid delivers an exhilarating drive with uncompromised efficiency. Combining a high-performance petrol engine and an electric motor, this 407hp/640Nm powertrain allows outstanding highway performance and zero emission commuting - with all-wheel drive capability when needed.

First Generation Volvo XC60

(2008 – 2017)‍‍‍

Launched in 2008, the first XC60 allowed Volvo to compete head-on and triumph over its German competitors in one of the most competitive market segments. As recently as 2015, it was the best-selling mid-size SUV in Europe.The XC60 is not only a consistent best-seller for Volvo; it is also an ever-improving one. Throughout its entire model life cycle, the first-generation XC60 never failed to post increase of its year-on-year sales, even as it was on the verge of being replaced by the newer model here.

The first XC60 was noteworthy for pioneering the introduction of City Safety, which is standard, as well as Collision Warning with Autobrake, offered as an optional upgrade. If it senses an inevitable collision, the XC60 activates its Pre-Prepared Restraints, which prepares and adapts the seat belts and airbags before the actual impact.

‍‍‍Early versions of the XC60 were powered by a compact and transversely-mounted 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo engine delivering 285hp and 400Nm. More recent versions, however, are powered by Volvo’s latest-generation Drive-E high performance engines that offer a perfect blend of driver enjoyment and fuel economy whilst retaining a responsive feel for city driving.

The last of the first-generation Volvo XC60 rolled off Volvo Cars’ plant in Ghent, Belgium, and is put on display at the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg.
