Volvo Cars made a clean sweep of all of the world’s most influential car awards in a single year – a sure sign that the company is on‍‍‍ the right track with its product-driven renaissance.

his represents the first time any car maker almost single-handedly sweep all awards from all major world regions in one single year. Adding icing to the cake, the all-new XC60 was recorded best overall performance of 2017 in Euro NCAP thanks to a near-perfect 98 percent score in its Adult Occupant evaluation.

This came after the XC60 also upset many homegrown favourites to be crowned the 2017-2018 Japan Car of the Year, becoming only the second ever non-Japanese vehicle to win the overall award.

Completing Volvo’s range of winners is the XC40 SUV, the company’s first ever compact premium SUV being crowned 2018 European Car of the Year. This win means that the complete line-up of new global Volvo SUVs starting with the XC90 have each been named Car of the Year in either Europe or North America.

Both the XC90 and XC60 were awarded North American Truck / Utility of the Year title in the past two years.

For his success in leading Volvo Cars’ remarkable turnaround, the President and CEO himself, Mr Håkan Samuelsson, was named 2018 World Car Person of the Year by the same World Car of the Year jury that picked the XC60 as their overall winner.

Besides exciting new products, Volvo Cars is also on the verge of revolutionizing the future of car ownership with its new ‘Care by Volvo’ subscription service that makes having a car as transparent, easy, and hassle free as having a phone.

The journey of continued growth is only just beginning for Volvo Cars, with important milestone years coming just over the horizon. Beginning 2019, every new Volvo car will have an electric motor of some form, whilst from 2020 onwards; no person should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo vehicle.

“I see this‍‍‍ award as acknowledgment of the efforts made by the entire Volvo Cars organization in recent years.”
