Malaysia Previews the JAECOO J7 PHEV Ahead of Year-End Launch
Pushing the Boundaries of PHEV Range
The 13-hour drive, which commenced on 16 October 2024, saw participants navigate diverse driving conditions, from heavy morning traffic to national highways and expressways. The JAECOO J7 PHEV boasts a pure electric range of 106km* on paper, and a class-leading fuel efficiency of 5.99 liters per 100km in its power-depleted state.
Introducing the JAECOO J7 PHEV to Malaysia
Scheduled for launch in Malaysia by the end of this year, the JAECOO J7 PHEV mirrors its petrol-powered counterpart in design, safety features, and comfort, but stands out with its hybrid engine, exceptional range, DC charging capability, and external output. This external output allows users to power devices such as projectors, kettles, or hairdryers—ideal for outdoor adventures.
During the drive, the JAECOO J7 PHEV exceeded expectations, achieving 125.2km in pure-electric mode, which is 19.2km* beyond its stated range. "This remarkable performance is thanks to JAECOO's Super Hybrid System (SHS) Technology, allowing the vehicle to maintain efficient and energy-saving driving," said Emily Lek, Vice President of JAECOO Malaysia. "We are excited to bring the JAECOO J7 PHEV to the Malaysian market, setting a new standard for economical and energy-efficient mobility."
Available in two variants, the JAECOO J7 PHEV is expected to be priced between RM170,000 and RM180,000. The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) model features seven driving modes—Economy, Standard, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road. Meanwhile, the Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) model offers three modes—Standard, Sport, and Economy. Equipped with an 18.3kWh battery and 60-litre fuel tank, the PHEV system generates 525Nm of torque. Additionally, the vehicle supports up to 40kW DC charging.
“Customers will have a range of colours, rim options, and interior upgrades to personalize their JAECOO J7 PHEV while staying true to the brand’s essence, ‘From Classic, Beyond Classic.’ Registrations of interest will open in October during our preview, with deliveries expected by February 2025,” added Lek.
"We understand that range anxiety remains a concern for drivers when considering electric vehicles. That’s why we placed the J7 PHEV in the hands of drivers worldwide to showcase the confidence and peace of mind it offers," said Leo Chen, Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia. "With the market seeking both engine performance and fuel efficiency, the JAECOO J7 PHEV enters at the perfect time."
