TOP JAPANESE TUNERS & CARS BOUND FOR TOKYO AUTO SALON KUALA LUMPUR
Kuala Lumpur, 21st March 2023 – A fleet of specially imported show-stopping cars from Japan and tier-1 exhibitors and tuners the likes of Top Secret, Spoon, HKS and Greddy among others will grace the inaugural hosting of the TOKYO AUTO SALON KUALA LUMPUR from 9-11 June at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
The show, a satellite event modeled identically after the world’s foremost renowned custom and performance car show in Japan, will cover a total floor space of 130,000 sq ft and is expected to draw 150,000 visitors from within Malaysian and the ASEAN region. The show is being jointly-organized by MUSE Group Asia and Element X Strategies, together with San Ei Corporation as the owner of the Tokyo Auto Salon intellectual property.
“Since MUSE Group Asia organized the very first every Tokyo Auto Salon outside of Japan in Singapore in 2013, our intent has always been to bring this prestigious event to Malaysia. And after 3 years of planning, we are glad to announce the Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur for 2023 is now just months away,” said MUSE Group Asia Chief Executive Officer Riduwan Matni in launching the event today. Also present was Mr Junichi Fukui, the Director-General of the Tokyo Auto Salon Federation.
In 40 years of the Tokyo Auto Salon being organized, it has grown into one of if not the top tiered international shows for both enthusiasts and exhibitors. What originally began as a celebration of innovative and creative display of Japanese manufactured cars has today evolved to include all makes and types of vehicles. The show has also become accepted as a prestigious platform by vehicle manufacturers as well as aftermarket accessories and performance parts companies to showcase their latest and most innovative offerings. On average 1,000 vehicles, more than 500 exhibitors, 4,000 booths and over 300,000 Japanese and international visitors visit the show annually.
Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur offers an exciting opportunity for big and small automotive players in Malaysia and ASEAN to showcase their latest products and services with different sizes of booths available for rent. More than 50% of the floor space has already been filled, and among exhibitors already confirmed for the show include Red Springs Sdn Bhd that will curate the 4x4 exhibits, Hot Wheels, EMMA Malaysia and Soon Soon Garage. Regional auto players joining include Option 4 Wheel from Thailand and Adtory-Minshing Automotives from China.
“The automotive aftermarket segment in Malaysia is valued at over US$6 billion per year, a sizeable contribution to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). According to a Nielsen Global Survey of Automotive Demand, Malaysia also posted the 3rd highest level of car ownership globally at 93% of households. Against this background, we are confident that the robust interest from motor enthusiasts and automotive brands alike will welcome the Tokyo Auto Salon coming to the shores of Malaysia,” said Riduwan.
“With the support of all partners and the public, and not forgetting our media friends, this event can become the spark in re-invigorating the aftermarket industry which has faced numerous challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and is now on the road towards recovery. We look forward to hosting a show every bit worthy of the Tokyo Auto Salon prestige.”
In addition to local and international exhibitors, Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur will also feature a beautiful line-up of race queens from Japan. A number of performances and workshops have also been curated for the show and early bird ticket buyers will be in the running for a lucky draw to win 2 pairs of an all-expense paid trip to the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan in 2024.
Meanwhile, Mr Junichi Fukui, the Director-General of the Tokyo Auto Salon Federation said bringing the Tokyo Auto Salon outside of Japan was with the intention of garnering even greater exposure for its members and to tap into new and emerging markets.
“The Kuala Lumpur show will bring a more international flair with the display of locally-modified vehicles and exhibits featuring Malaysian and ASEAN engineered accessories and performance parts as well as services. The show’s greater objective is to create a vibrant and viable platform for our members and potential regional manufacturers to engage in business,” Fukui-San said.
“The love for JDM cars has grown exponentially worldwide and the Tokyo Auto Salon has been at the epicenter of this phenomenon. Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur is envisioned to become a strategic hub for both enthusiasts and our members in ASEAN.”
